The changes I made gave about a 10% increase in the json and single query results. Multiple database queries was about the same. tested using all their scripts on ec2 m1.large instances. At those levels of traffic (~36k requests/second) any little variation or slow down can cause a bit of jitter, so we'll see if they rerun the tests with the changes.
